As with all advice books, Baby Greens delivers exactly that: advice. However,
in terms of its subject matter, this book differs from other childhood nutrition
books in that it offers practical, supportive and easily managed suggestions in a
non-obtrusive, authoritative manner. A preface by Gabriel Cousens, MD, lends
suggestions from a forerunner of the live-food approach. As Dr. Cousens indicates, this a
concise, easy-to-read-and-use source of live-food information, palatable and specific
to children.
Many parents face confusion and controversy when it comes to nutrition for
their children. General anxiety often follows the mention of toxins in the food chain
and how it affects our children. Rather than being inundated by a flood of
unwelcome advice or becoming distressed by the lack of adequate, practical nutritional
information, when reading
Baby Greens you are privy to supportive information, recipes, resources and
activities to help you find solutions to your concerns. This book renders valuable
tips necessary for starting a living-foods lifestyle tailored to your requirements, or
to support a healthy lifestyle already in place.
Baby Greens is ideal for chiropractic doctors and other health care
practitioners interested in supporting the nutritional recommendations given in their
practices. Your patients will appreciate that the text speaks to them, the concerned parents.
Examples of topics discussed include: mindset, re-establishing the whole
picture, enzymes, digestion, the pancreas, nutritional individuality, the nontoxic child,
the energetic compensatory system and pH balance, breastfeeding as a nutritional
model, protein and vitamin B12; the list goes on.
I especially liked the section on "Basic Tools and Equipment." It includes
recommendations for: blender, juicer, dehydrator, electric coffee grinder/food
processor, graters and wide-mouth glass jars. Many readers will own one or many of these
kitchen tools. The same section contains "Recommendations for Kids in the Kitchen."
According to the author, these recommendations are offered in order to "foster a lifetime
of love for living foods in our children ... by including them as much as we can in
the growing and preparing of their own meals and snacks. The children not only
gain awareness, self-confidence, and skills that will follow them into adulthood, but
they are also able to do what they love best-spend time with you!"
The recommendations include using child-sized safety scissors, a manual wheat
grass juicer, manual citrus juicer, wire egg slicer, melon baler, garlic press,
cookie cutters, mortar and pestle, manual coffee grinder, veggie peeler, safety
grater, measuring cups and spoons, sprouting jars and screens, and push-down apple
slicers. Safe use is always a priority!
You also will be delighted with the recipes for natural cleaning, recipes for
live-food dishes, and kitchen activity suggestions that pack this imaginative and
down-to-earth book.
What I like most about Baby Greens is that it is
readable! I give this text a perfect score for its supportive, naturally healthy lifestyle suggestions for you,
your family and your patients!
